Fuel Injection Systems
A vehicle’s fuel system comprises components that deliver fuel from the tank to the engine, including a fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel-pressure regulator, fuel filter and fuel injectors. Fuel system components are built to last, so the fuel filter is the only part that’s likely to require replacement on a schedule.
All fuel injection systems comprise three basic components:
- at least one fuel injector
- a device that creates injection pressure (fuel distributor)
- a device that meters the correct amount of fuel (fuel pump)
Fuel system leaks can lead to poor performance, high fuel consumption and hard starting. There are a few signs and symptoms that indicate fuel injection problem, including misfiring, fuel odour, leaks, high and low revs, or reduced fuel economy.
